CARPENTER’S KITCHEN, established in 1986 at Mt. Vernon Place UMC, provides hot and nutritious meals to our homeless and hungry neighbors and families.  Meals are served every Saturday from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm, 52 weeks a year regardless of holiday or inclement weather.

During a typical month we will greet and serve 200 to 300 guests.

The program is supported by 27 ecumenical churches and other partners that provide monetary contributions and volunteers to set up, cook, serve, and clean each week.

According to the director,

“… Some guests are just so happy to see us and thank us many times over for the meal, but mostly for being there for them, for caring, for listening, and not being afraid to touch them.”
